Seasoned, Passionate & Here to Stay: Why I’m the Wedding Photographer You Can Trust

I’ve been photographing weddings for nearly two decades – and I can tell you this: it never, ever gets old.
From the nervous excitement in the morning to the first dance and the realisation the day has been more than anyone could have imagined. I’m still hooked.
This post is for you if you’re newly engaged, just finding me for the first time, and wondering if I might be the right person to capture your wedding day.

What 20 Years SHOOTING Weddings Has Taught Me:

When I picked up my first camera a Canon AE1 at the age of 15, I had no idea it would lead me here – to a career full of love stories, laughter, and a lens covered in champagne. Moments of pure joy and excitement. Real emotions, proud family and friends. Unity, connection, commitment and most of all love.

I’ve photographed weddings in castles, barns, beaches, and beautiful gardens. Huge churches with multi coloured sunlight streaming through the stained glass window. An intimate ceremony on the top of a cliff over looking the ocean – and what these experience have given me is calmness, confidence and the skill to quietly observe and predict the unguarded moments.

What’s Changed – and What Never Will

Trends come and go – I’ve seen vintage, shabby chic, boho, editorial, two tone dresses, Wedding cakes made of rounds of cheese, naked cakes, huge cakes with royal icing and fairy cakes stacked into a pyramid … I’ve sewn brides into their dresses when the zip has failed, informed a groom via sign language that his ring was infact on the wrong hand. Danced around drones, scurried backward through a tunnel of sparkles and handled veils in 30mph winds.

But what hasn’t changed?

The power of a meaningful photograph. The downside of doing this for so long, is you hear of the losses of loved ones. Im bumped into a groom I shot 10 or so years before. We were both on ferry traveling back to the Island. He informed me that after a valiant fight with breast cancer, his beautiful brave beloved wife had died. I could see the pain in his eyes as he told me. He then said that his wedding album sits next to his chair at home. He looks at it when he is having a tough day. He talks to her about their wedding on a really hot day in July. He recalls the hotel and its beautiful grounds in the New Forest. This breaks my heart - but warms it too. I captured those moments, he no longer has her, but he has my photographs.

Witnessing the moment when the couples witnesses are signing the register and the bride and groom have the opportunity to talk freely and queitly for the first time, is one of my favourite moments. They are so happy that their smiles consumes most of the faces and they giggle. They might look at their hands, at the new ring that still feel a bit strange. They might share a kiss or he might whisper “you look beautiful” in her ear. I love these moments. Pure joy, excitement, love and happiness.

Something that I will never tire of, take for granted or become complacent about is the trust this couple has put in me. They have allowed me in to be the closest witness of this day. To record it. To become part of their inner circle. And then I almost vanish into the crowd, its not about me, I have been likend to a snipper, hiding in the shadows capturing moments that arent planned or posed. I know I am the only person who will be with all day. The hugs and overwhelming gratitude I get when I leave them dancing the night away, is wonderful. I walk to my car with my camera bag seemingly weighing much heavier than I remember. I have achey feet, sore shoulders and a heart filled with love.

Why I’m Still So in Love With What I Do

You don’t stay in this job unless you truly love it. And I do. I love celebrating your love, I know it sounds cheesy, but its true. 20 years and yes I can be seen to cry during the speeches, and wow I have heard some speeches! And on those tougher days we all experince in life I have the pleasure to read my google reviews and see that my couples really appreciate and love what I do and how I do it.

And my couples feel it too:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
All I can say is thank you so, so much for everything you did for us on the day. I’ve had a few comments about how good you were! You not only did your job, but you were so attentive to me the entire day as well and I am so grateful for that! You really helped the day run smoothly. It was the most perfect day and you played a big part in that, so thank you. All the photos and they’re lovely! “

Yard Day at Barton Manor – Ponies, Passion & the Power of Connection

This past weekend, at the start of August, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a yard day at the stunning Barton Manor. It was one of those shoots that stays with you — not just for the beautiful setting, but for the stories, the connections, and the ponies that reminded me so much of the journeys I've shared with my own daughter.

As the day unfolded, I was struck again and again by the magic of horses and the people who love them. One pony in particular was giving its young handler quite a challenge — an old gelding, that should have known better. Cheeky and full of attitude, definitely testing the waters. But the rider, though not a match for him when he wanted to graze, held her ground with grace and quiet determination. It was inspiring to watch her assert her leadership and, ultimately, win the pony's respect. A powerful little moment of growth and grit. At the end of the shoot the rider requested they had a straight gallop down the track. I must admit, I was very envious. I’d love to have been in her boots. She had freedom, power, speed & exhilaration. And now she has the photograph too.

Then there was a lovely cob — a beautiful young grey. Calm and radiant. Her presence was gentle, yet striking, and photographing her was an absolute joy. She stood like a pro and looked straight out of a fairytale. Her young handlers hair glistened in the sunlight as did the pony beautiful white mane. At the start of our session, the rider was a little nervous and was grateful of her mums reassuring presence. By the end of the session her young handler walked her back to the stable block on her own. Full of confidence and love. The image makes my heart burst with pride.

Another highlight of the day was meeting a young girl and her first-ever horse. They’ve only been together for six weeks, but the bond they’ve built already is nothing short of beautiful. Both the rider and the horse where timid and quiet, but the horse, a nervous young thoroughbred who didn’t make the grade racing, sensed every move her new human made. Navigating this very different world from a racing yard to a beautiful farm on the Isle of Wight. Watching them interact, you’d think they’d been together for years. That kind of connection is always special to witness and even more special to capture through the lens.

Finally, one of the most touching parts of the day was photographing a girl and horse I know very well — both of whom have overcome significant health challenges. Seeing them now, healthy, happy, and fully in their power, was emotional and deeply rewarding. Moments like that make everything I do worthwhile. Having been close to them and their family throughout these last couple of years, this shoot was such a pleasure and an honour to do. When they both where at their lowest, this shoot was something I hoped I would be able to to do. And here I was. Just perfect.

Whenever I go out for a shoot, I work with my three guiding principles — what I call the Three C’s:

  • Connection – This is always at the heart of what I capture. The bond between horse and rider is what makes each photo sing. I look for that mutual understanding — the love, the respect, the partnership — and I do my best to bring it forward in every frame.

  • Content – The background matters. A clean, tidy yard and thoughtful setup make a huge difference to the final image. Barton Manor made my job easy — it’s absolutely gorgeous and required very little adjustment to shoot beautifully.

  • Correctness – Presentation is key. I always aim to photograph horses and riders that are turned out correctly: clean tack, correct positioning, and proper handling. Of course, there are fun exceptions — like those dreamy bareback-in-a-dress moments — but even then, safety and respect for the horse always come first.

Wrapping up, I’m genuinely thrilled with the images from the day. The venue was stunning, the people were warm and welcoming, and the ponies were full of personality. I had a fantastic time and can’t wait for the next yard shoot!

Branding Shoots with Amber & Wight – A Story of Calm Luxury by the Sea

Amber, the founder, is a woman with passion, purpose, and an extraordinary gift for making women feel seen, nurtured, and beautifully cared for. Her bespoke facial treatments go far beyond skincare—they’re an escape from the everyday. And that sense of escape, of calm, was at the very heart of our branding sessions.

Amber from Amber & Wight taking time to reconnect with the sea before a busy day at the salon.

There’s something really special about working with a brand that knows exactly who it is—and who it’s here to serve. My recent branding photography shoots with Amber & Wight, a high-end beauty and facial specialist based here on the Isle of Wight, were just that: a dream collaboration steeped in calm, vision, and pure luxury.

Shoot One: Coastal Calm at Priory Bay, Seaview

We began with a sunrise shoot at Priory Bay in Seaview, a hidden gem of a location that perfectly matched Amber’s serene and luxurious aesthetic. The sea was beautifully still, the tide out, and the beach blissfully quiet—just us and the soft whisper of waves.

Amber moved gracefully through the landscape, barefoot and present, embodying the calm confidence her treatments bring to her clients. The whole experience felt like a breath of fresh sea air: elegant, slow, and soulful. These images capture the essence of what Amber & Wight offers—space to exhale, reconnect, and feel your best self again.

Shoot Two: Serenity Inside the Studio

Our second shoot took place in the tranquil surroundings of Amber’s gorgeous treatment space. From the moment I walked in, it felt like entering a spa sanctuary. The air was scented delicately, the treatment couch was prepped with freshly laundered linen, and everything was styled to reflect intention and care.

During this session, I photographed Amber treating clients to her signature facials—gentle massage, hydrating masks, intuitive touch. Every frame told the story of her bespoke approach to skincare. It’s more than a beauty treatment; it’s time carved out for you.

What’s Next: Headshots & Product Photography

Our next shoot will focus on capturing fresh, professional headshots of Amber—perfect for her website and social media presence—as well as photographs of her carefully curated product range styled naturally within her salon space.

I’m really looking forward to it. I love being in her space, where every detail is so considered and calming. And working with such a passionate, forward-thinking businesswoman is always inspiring. I can’t wait to tell the next chapter of her brand story through imagery.

If you’re a female-led brand looking to elevate your visual identity with intentional, luxury branding photography, let’s chat. I love helping passionate women like Amber bring their vision to life.

Effortless Elegance: Capturing the Heart of Amber Rose Bridal

Tucked away at the end of her garden lies Amber’s studio — her creative sanctuary, where music plays softly and bridal magic happens. It's her happy place, and the moment you step in, you feel it: a blend of calm, inspiration, and effortless style.

Amber Rose working at trusty machine in her beautiful studio - magic really does happen here

Tucked away at the end of her garden lies Amber’s studio — her creative sanctuary, where music plays softly and bridal magic happens. It's her happy place, and the moment you step in, you feel it: a blend of calm, inspiration, and effortless style.

Amber herself is exactly like her designs — fun, elegant, and so easy to be around. Her gowns are made for the bride who wants something a little different. Unrestrictive, subtly sexy, and full of soul — just like the women who wear them.

This shoot was all about capturing that essence. A designer whose vision celebrates individuality, movement, and beauty without compromise.

We chatted about her brand. I asked her to describe her business. Who her bride is? About her colour palette, the story behind her logo and how she uses photography to connect.

And her designs?Unrestrictive, subtly sexy, and made for the modern bride who wants different — without losing elegance.

Every photo was created to reflect her playful, light, simple and beautifully made business.

Not just portraits — but a full visual story.

After our session, I edited and delivered the images — and Amber was so happy.
She told me she usually doesn’t enjoy being photographed, but she genuinely loved this shoot — and the final images.

Her mum’s words stuck with me:
“You’ve really captured her true personality.”
The biggest compliment.

And the best part? Amber’s now booked me for her first solo shoot. (You’ll see that in an upcoming blog — it’s a good one!)

Photographing passionate, creative women like Amber is one of my favourite things to do.
So if this has sparked something in you — you know where to find me.

See you Soon

Heels or Trainers on Your Wedding Day? Let’s Settle This Once and for All.

Ah, the age-old wedding question: to heel or not to heel? That is the question. And whether 'tis nobler to suffer the blisters of outrageous stilettos or to arm your feet against a sea of sore arches with a trusty pair of crisp white trainers… well, let’s just say even Shakespeare would struggle on this one.

Heels or Trainers on Your Wedding Day? Let’s Settle This Once and for All.
Why suffer for fashion when you can strut, dance and maybe even sprint down the aisle in style?

Ah, the age-old wedding question: to heel or not to heel? That is the question. And whether 'tis nobler to suffer the blisters of outrageous stilettos or to arm your feet against a sea of sore arches with a trusty pair of crisp white trainers… well, let’s just say even Shakespeare would struggle on this one.

Let’s break it down.

Team High Heels

If you’re the type who’s been known to whisper sweet nothings to your Louboutins, then heels on your wedding day might feel like a non-negotiable. They’re elegant, timeless, and give you that statuesque “I-just-married-a-prince” energy.

Pros:

  • Instant posture boost. You’ll stand tall, shoulders back, feeling like royalty.

  • Legs for days. Even Cinderella knew the power of a perfect shoe.

  • They photograph chef’s kiss. The drama! The sparkle!

Cons:

  • Pain. Let’s not sugarcoat it. After an hour on cobbled Isle of Wight church paths or garden gravel, you may start questioning all your life choices.

  • Sinking into grass. Brides who’ve had outdoor ceremonies know this heartbreak too well. One step and suddenly you’re a tent peg.

Team Trainers

Now, if you’re more into freedom, fun, and being able to feel your toes past 3pm, trainers might just be your bridal BFF.

Pros:

  • Comfort galore. You can dance, skip, or even moonwalk down the aisle.

  • Statement style. White leather trainers with “Mrs” stitched on the heel? Yes please.

  • Total surprise factor. Lift your dress and reveal your secret weapon—the comfy queen lives!

Cons:

  • Less traditional. If Great Aunt Edna is expecting a satin pump moment, she may raise an eyebrow.

  • Not all dresses are made for trainers—but the right pairing? Absolute editorial-level chic.

The Hybrid Hero: The Outfit Change

Why not both? Cue glitter confetti.

Start the ceremony in your heels—float down the aisle in all your elegant glory. Then, for the reception or post-photos, swap into your trainers like the bridal boss you are. One for the romance, one for the rave. It’s the best of both worlds (and your feet will thank you later).

Final Thoughts (from someone who’s photographed both)

As someone who’s captured hundreds of Isle of Wight “I dos”, let me tell you: the best wedding shoes are the ones that let you be you. Whether you’re clicking down the aisle in Jimmy Choos or jumping for joy in Stan Smiths—own it.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about what’s on your feet—it’s about where they’re taking you. And that’s into a lifetime of love, laughter, and very possibly… more shoes.

Which team are you on? Drop me a message on Instagram or tell me during your pre-wedding shoot—I’m dying to know. And if you’re still undecided? Bring both. I’ve got a camera and zero judgement. By the way I wear a Adidas Samba’s to photograph weddings!

Love, laughter, and no blisters,

Mandy x

Tiny Humans at Big Weddings: The Pros & Cons of Kids at Your "I Do"

Let’s face it — weddings are a delicate balance of elegance, emotion, and... chaos. And nothing brings all three in one sugar-fueled package quite like children. Whether you're the bride wondering if your cousin’s triplets will upstage your first dance, or a guest nervously clutching a juice box as a peace offering, the question remains: should kids be on the guest list?

Title: Tiny Humans at Big Weddings: The Pros & Cons of Kids at Your "I Do"

Intro:

Let’s face it — weddings are a delicate balance of elegance, emotion, and... chaos. And nothing brings all three in one sugar-fueled package quite like children. Whether you're the bride wondering if your cousin’s triplets will upstage your first dance, or a guest nervously clutching a juice box as a peace offering, the question remains: should kids be on the guest list?

Here’s a lighthearted look at the pros and cons of pint-sized partygoers at weddings — from someone who's seen it all through the lens.

PRO: Unscripted Entertainment

Children are walking, talking wild cards. One moment they’re dropping petals like royalty, the next they’re sliding across the dance floor on their knees in formal wear. You simply can’t plan the kind of joy a toddler brings when they burst into spontaneous dance during your vows. It's real, it's hilarious, and it makes for excellent photos.

CON: Unscripted Drama

Of course, the same unpredictability can go... sideways. Think: mid-ceremony meltdowns, cake fingered before it’s cut, or a tiny guest yelling “BORING!” during the readings. It’s not a bug — it’s a feature. But one you might prefer at someone else’s wedding.

PRO: Heart-Melting Moments

Flower girls and page boys in miniature suits and dresses? Stop. It’s almost illegal how cute that is. Add in a proud grandparent tearfully holding a baby during your first dance and boom — emotionally cinematic gold.

CON: Bedtime is Non-Negotiable

Unlike your best mates, kids don’t get a second wind. Once the clock strikes 7pm, Cinderella’s carriage turns into a screaming pumpkin. Early exits, overtired tears, or entire families disappearing just before the speeches are all part of the bedtime battlefield.

PRO: Built-In Ice Breakers

Nothing gets Aunt Judith and your old uni pals talking faster than a three-year-old zooming past with a napkin cape and two fistfuls of Haribo. Kids loosen up a room and remind everyone it’s okay to smile, laugh, and not take things too seriously.

CON: Sticky Fingers Everywhere

You know what doesn't pair well with lace, silk, and tulle? Jam. Or chocolate. Or the mysterious goo that only toddlers seem to produce. Be prepared for the possibility of grubby handprints on your dress, your décor, and possibly your dog.

So, Should You Invite Kids?

It all depends on your vibe.

  • Want a formal, candlelit affair with a string quartet and speeches that go past bedtime? Maybe opt for an adults-only guest list.

  • Dreaming of a relaxed, family-filled day with laughter, love, and a side of chaos? Bring on the babes.

  • Somewhere in the middle? Offer a kids’ table, hire a wedding nanny, or arrange a quiet space for naps and cartoons (aka sanity savers).

Whatever you choose, own it. Clear communication on invites is key. And if you're on the fence — have your photographer ready. Because whether it’s giggles or tantrums, kids bring a kind of magic that no one else can.

Final Thought:

Just remember — whether your wedding is a no-kids soirée or a full-blown family jamboree, it’s your day. And no matter what, we’ll capture it beautifully (even if there’s a toddler with cake on their nose in the background).

P.S. If you're wondering whether a child-free wedding will ruffle feathers, the answer is probably yes. But hey, so will the seating chart.
